Prenatal & Postnatal faq
Starting from which week of pregnancy can I practice yoga?
Each individual has unique criteria. Normally it is recommended 12 weeks after the start of your pregnancy. Check with your medical provider if you are clear to exercise. Some decide to wait until the second trimester. Those with an active lifestyle or previous yoga experience sometimes can start earlier.
What's the difference between prenatal courses and regular courses?
Prenatal courses are designed especially for women who are pregnant, therefore the postures and the intensity of the classes are all adjusted to the stage of pregnancy of each practitioner to make sure your safety. There are a lot of changes that happen in your body during all stages of pregnancy. Your pelvis can expand to accommodate your growing baby. And because soft tissues are more pliable, you may experience an increase in range of motion and flexibility. With all these changes to your body, prenatal courses are here to help you navigate movements in a way that will support your changing body and build strength and stretch for the delivery day.
Should I choose prenatal yoga or prenatal pilates for the first class?
Prenatal yoga is more focused on building a connection with your baby through breathing and meditation practices. Whereas prenatal pilates is more focused on core strength and full-body balance training. It is a good idea to try different classes to get an idea of the style and teachers you like and what is right for you, so you can schedule the class according to your needs and conditions afterwards.
Should I choose group or private class?
We recommend you to try both classes if you are new to the exercise, so you can arrange your following routine according to your time and preference better. However, we suggest combining both group and private classes in your schedule to achieve a better result for you and your baby.
Can I start the class as without any prior yoga experience?
All of our classes are beginner-friendly. You do not need yoga experience to begin a session. All you need to have is an open heart and a curious mind. Our instructors are able to take care of the rest and fully support all kinds of practitioners in class, no matter you are first timer or fitness professional.
How long after pregnancy can I restart practice?
6 weeks for those who adopt natural birthing methods, 9 weeks for the mommies who had c-sections. Usually, your medical provider will let you know if you can start exercising or still need more rest after regular checks.
Why choose the studio when there are also postpartum rehab programs in the hospital?
The hospital has instruments that can test the strength and relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles and instruments that can support postpartum rehabilitation. But postpartum rehabilitation should be gained through active exercise more than passive therapy. If you're looking for reaching a better strength condition compared to your prenatal status, active exercise is a better way to achieve your goal! Mindfulness FAQ
What is Mindfulness? Why should I practice it?
The essence of practicing mindfulness is to bring our awareness to the present moment. To do that, we need to pay attention to our sensations, feelings, thoughts here-and-now with an attitude of acceptance. Although some of the potential benefits of mindfulness include lowering stress, decreasing depression, improving memory, and strengthening our relationships, among other things, we do not recommend practitioners to hold a strong objective before each practice session, for mindfulness is not a direct therapy cure, but instead, a way of living. During our mindfulness programs we will help you to relax your mind, body and soul as well as reducing your anxiety though professional guidance. Lots of practitioners also found their life quality is elevated after practicing.
What mindfulness programs does Dragon Space offer?
Offering various professional mindfulness programs to support practitioners who are seeking self-improvement has always been our mission and what makes our studio different. Our current mindfulness programs include Meditation, Pranayama, Yin Yoga, Reiki, Tibetan Singing Bowl, Gong, and animal therapy. We also offer certified training programs for those who are looking to become an instructor/healer themselves.
Can I practice mindfulness at home?
Of course you can! We highly recommend all mindfulness practitioners to meditate at home 15 minutes every day. By doing so, you are forming a better mindfulness habit and you will feel the difference after 2-3 weeks of regular practice.
How do I know which mindfulness program suits me?
In order to allow our team to give you more precise advice, you can communicate your situation or problems with our instructor beforehand. For some common questions such as "if mindfulness programs are beneficial to weight loss and sleeping problems", mindfulness practices are not a medical cure to the condition, however, it can help to reduce anxiety and stress as well as improve the sense of well-being and quality of life.
